Critical Role Campaign 4 Reveals the Fighters Party

Since the launch of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master the talented storyteller has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of personalities, and a gripping narrative including divine entities, evil spirits, and sinister influences expanding in influence within the urban setting.

Note: Spoilers for the third episode of this adventure are included.

The Warrior Group Introduced

Episode 3 concluded with a dramatic pause and presented the first table of adventurers who will split off from the primary party to undertake their separate journey, separate from the other two tables.

The combat-focused team features the determined fighter (portrayed by the voice actor), the agile character (the talented performer), Tyranny (Whitney), the cleric (Sam), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).

Dividing the Cast

With 13 cast members, it was clear from the outset that keeping everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.

Hence, the opening chapters of this story serve as an Overture, weaving together the characters’ stories before branching into three smaller tables: Warriors, Schemers, and Questers.

The Nature of the Combat Party

Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who enjoy a classically intense battle-oriented narrative style where non-violent answers are few and far between.

Upon first impression, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander might seem mismatched, but the developments of the third episode demonstrate why these five characters are best suited for the combat party.

Motivations for Departure

For one thing, the party understands precisely where to go next after a brutal initial meeting with the antagonists.

Casimir of Thjazi—whose death kicked off the narrative’s action—manipulated the enemy for his personal gain, entering the secret base, assaulting the rogue, and stealing all the powerful objects to sell off.

The traitor then paid off his liabilities and ran away to a fortified location in the northern region, above the urban center, with Cyd hot on his heels.

Personal Motivations

Secondly, each character has a individual motive to leave the city the metropolitan area:

  • The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, wants revenge.
  • The adventurer knows the region and warns that it is a dangerous place.
  • The strong character and The healer, having resisted his relatives’ demands to execute the target and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
  • But, their reputation as prominent individuals in the influential clan could enable the team enter locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Moreover, The grateful character swore a unbreakable promise to The savior for his salvation and will now go with him anywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

Finally, all of them are hunted by the authorities that govern the city for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city too risky:

  • The rogue and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The warrior and The cleric turned against the influential house and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
  • The target is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.

This leaves them little choice but to travel to Timmony in pursuit of the traitor.

What’s Next?

Based on the latest episode’s post-show segment, we learn that the Soldiers table will be absent next week, leaving the remaining eight cast members to assemble the Seekers and Schemers parties.

Audiences can expect finding out which characters will be where in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, streaming live on next week.
